I spent most of yesterday wandering around Kennington, Stockwell, North Clapham and Brixton looking for letting agencies and getting a feel for the areas (and sore feet). All pleasant areas, I think, although Brixton currently tops my list (it's most lively and has lowest prices, and reminds me of Walthamstow). North Clapham feels rather like Leytonstone, Stockwell *slightly* less comfortable (partly enviromnent, partly the de Menezes memorial) and Kennington's a bit pricy and not as well connected for work.
Looking at
http://www.findaproperty.co.uk/ (and talking to agencies) it seems I can get a 1-bed place in Brixton from about ã700 to ã900 pcm; quoted journey time to HSK is 25-30 minutes (compared to 40 or from Leytonstone tube). Getting within 1/2 mile would be useful to cut time off the walking part of the journey (current walking part this end is about 0.7miles, 0.4 by crow).
The next trick, of course, is finding the places, getting to see them, choosing one and moving. This is going to require a bit of time, probably during the week - so I'll need to get some time off work.
Anyway, after the hike (and it was a good day for it) I headed over to
thekumquat and
conflux house-warming. Great place, but the railway links confused me somewhat... It was great to catch up with people again (and thaw out!) and it reminded me of another good reason to move down there.
Didn't make it to gaming today (didn't get out of the house anywhere near early enough) so, having takne another look at available property, I'm going to get on with tidying this place somewhat so it's read for the Landlord to show people round (and so I can get rid of a lot of my junk!)
ION: I've been f'king Joe-Jobbed *again*
